Description
The Colosseum (or Coliseum, originally the Amphitheatrum Flavium) is the largest amphitheatre in the world and is considered one of the greatest works of architecture and engineering.
The name further evolved to Coliseum during the Middle Ages. In Italy, the amphitheatre is still known as il Colosseo, and other Romance languages have come to use similar forms such as Coloseumul (Romanian), le Colise (French), el Coliseo (Spanish) and o Coliseu (Portuguese).
In 2007 the complex was included among the New7Wonders of the World, following a competition organized by New Open World Corporation (NOWC).
