Ancient giant bust of first Roman Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus (Gaius Octavius) at Vatican Museums, Courtyard of the Pigna. Vatican City.
The Cortile della Pigna was crammed with statues from excavations and commissions while Raphael and Michelangelo worked for the Pope. The massive Face of Augustus statue (La testa colossale della Pigna), which is the head portion of a colossal statue, was one of them. Caesar Augustus, Julius Caesar's successor, was the subject of the statue. Why is Caesar Augustus's colossal head on exhibit in the Vatican Museum today? Because the Roman Empire experienced its Pax Augustus, or Golden Era, under Augustus. This was the time of the first Christmas and the spread of Christianity. People were able to contemplate the afterlife because to Augustus' Pax Augusta. It also meant that it was safe to travel around the Empire, allowing Christianity to spread efficiently.
