Description
Ferdinand Porsche founded the car brand in 1931, with headquarters in Stuttgart. It is now owned by Volkswagen AG, which is itself majority-owned by Porsche Automobil Holding SE. The Porsche crest first appeared in late 1952 in the centre of the 356 Pre-A’s steering wheel.
Porsche's company logo was based on the coat of arms of the Free People's State of Württemberg of former Weimar Germany, which had Stuttgart as its capital.
Without a question, Ferdinand Porsche (1875–1951) was a brilliant engineer, talented designer, and technical wizard. In addition to creating the first hybrid automobile in history (the Lerner Porsche Mixte), he also pioneered the wheel hub motor and created vehicles, trucks, and tractors for use in the military and agriculture.
His life was marked by a number of successes, including receiving an honorary doctorate and winning races with his Sascha vehicles, but there were also disappointments, including disagreements and a separation with Austro-Daimler. "If one does not often make mistakes, then one has not challenged oneself enough," he himself stated.
His race vehicles are now considered to be essential to the history of the automobile. He was an avid driver who tested all of his models on racetracks in addition to building quick automobiles.
The following quotations perfectly capture his passion:
“The perfect race car crosses the finish line first and then crumbles into its individual parts.”
“The last car that will be built will be a sports car.”
“Who told you that you should use the brakes, you should simply drive!”
As Ferdinand Porsche once stated, "The people who invented something make history, not the technology."
