Description
The name Tarocco is supposed to be derived from the farmer's cry of amazement when shown this fruit by its discoverer. It is a medium-sized fruit that is possibly the sweetest and most delicious of the three varieties. The most popular table orange in Italy, it is considered to have originated from a 'Sanguinello' mutation. It is known as "half-blood" because the flesh is not as pronounced in red coloring as the 'Moro' and 'Sanguinello' kinds. It has thin orange skin with a little crimson flush. The 'Tarocco' orange is one of the world's most popular due to its sweetness (Brix to acid ratio is often greater than 12.0) and juiciness. It has the greatest vitamin C.
It boasts the greatest vitamin C concentration of any orange type cultivated in the world, owing to the fertile environment surrounding Mount Etna, and is simple to peel. 'Tarocco' oranges are seedless.
